Rs 52,363 lakh for Assam during ’06-’08
Jul 17th, 2008 | By neitham | Category: Assam | Email |Guwahati, July 16, 2008: The Assam Government received Rs 52,363.01 lakh from the Central Government during 2006-2007 and 2007-08 fiscals for implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) schemes. Rural Development Minister Chandan Brahma stated this in reply to a question from Dr Tara Prasad Das (Independent).
He told the House in reply to another question from Sirajuddin Ajmal that an amount of Rs 29,730 was released to the State by the Central Government for implementation of the NREGA schemes during 2008-09 fiscal
The Minister also said in reply to a question from Dr Rumi Nath (BJP) that 16,25,137 household job cards were issued in the State under the NREGA till May 2007.
All the 27 districts of the State have been covered under the NREGA schemes in three phases. While seven districts were covered by the schemes in the first phase, six more districts were covered under the schemes in the second phase and the rest were brought under them in the third phase, said the Minister.
The Minister told the House in reply to a question of Binod Gowala (AGP) that the State’s closing balance under the Swarnajayanti Gram Rojgar Yojana (SGRY) till March 31, 2008 was Rs 10,793.17 lakh.
The State Government has been conducting door-to-door surveys and consulting the voters’ lists and Census reports while issuing job cards to the beneficiaries of the NREGA schemes, the Minister said in reply to a question from Prasanta Phukan (BJP).
During 2007-08, 2,39,543 families of the State were benefited under the NREGA schemes, he said in reply to a question from Ananata Deka (CPI-M). The State Government had released Rs 618 lakh during 2006-07 as its share under the NREGA schemes and it released an amount of Rs 2, 444 lakh during the 2007-08 fiscal under those schemes as its share, the Minister said in reply to Deka’s question.
Panchayats: The State Government has transferred 23 subjects of 17 departments to the panchayatiraj institutions. At present there is shortage of regular panchayat secretaries, tax collectors and peons at the gaon panchayat level.
Of the 2202 gaon panchayats in the State, there are only 1,955 sanctioned posts of gaon panchayat secretaries, 692 sanctioned posts of tax collectors and 615 sanctioned posts of peon-cum-chowkidars, the Minister said in reply to a question of Mission Ranjan Das (BJP).
