Security for Tipaimukh dam-IG (LO-II) surveys site personally
Aug 13th, 2008 | By neitham | Category: Manipur | Email |Imphal, August 12, 2008: Following instructions from the Union Home Ministry to the State Government on the required security for the Tipaimukh Multi-purpose Power Project which will have the capacity of generating 1500 megawatt of power, IG (Law & Order-II) C Doungel has conducted a personal security assessment by going to the dam, site even as NEEPCO has sought the permission of the State on the site for resettlement of the would be affected villagers.
Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, an official source informed that at the instruction of the Union Home Ministry to the State Government, a team led IG (Law & Order-II) C Doungel visited Tipaimukh on August 8 along with Security Officer of NEEPCO and BSF officials to conduct security assessment.
The report of the security assessment submitted to the State Government indicated that 27 companies of security forces would be required for the project, the source disclosed, adding that the report would be for warded to the Union Home Ministry.
The required security is to be arranged and provided by the Union Home Ministry, the source said.
On the other hand, the issue related to environ mental clearance of the project has been discussed during a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary at his office today.
The meeting was attended by Executive Director of NEEPCO Borgohain, Principal Secretary Home DS Poonia, officials of Power, Pollution Control Board, Forest Department, Deputy Commissioners of Churachandpur and Tamenglong districts.
During the meeting, NEEPCO, from its side, expressed desire on the part of the State Government to identify the site for resettlement of the would be affected people as well as demarcation of the forest boundary.
NEEPCO official also demanded to know whether the State Government has own separate policies of its own on rehabilitation and settlement as well as on land acquisition.
In its response the rehabilitation and settlement policy of the Centre would be applicable in the project and there is also separate of Today’s meeting also discussed the, rate of compensation be given to the affected people.
