Chautaki villagers receive Guinness certificate
Dec 2nd, 2008 | By neitham | Category: Assam | Email |BONGAIGAON, Dec 1, 2008 – Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi launched a new scheme– ‘Mission Green Bongaigaon’ under NREGA, on Sunday at Chautaki, the village which had entered the Guinness World Records by planting a record 284,236 saplings within 24 hours on July 11-12 this year beside the Kujia rivulet. The Chief Minister also dedicated the certificate to the villagers. Three hundred people of the village were involved in the mammoth effort.
Alongwith Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, ministers Chandan Brahman, Rockybul Hussain, Akon Bora and MLA Kamalsing Narzary were present in this launching ceremony. To mark the ceremony a souvenir Chautaki was released by Gogoi. Later, the Chief Minister joined the open meeting of his party at Gandhi Maidan, Abhayapuri. But after delivering a short and simple speech, like at Chautaki, Gogoi felt sick and was immediately rushed to circuit house for a health check-up. Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma came down heavily on the BJP in his public address. In this meeting besides Sarma, Bhubaneswar Kalita and other eminent Congress leader were present.
