Jun 10th, 2009 | By khmonish | Category: Tripura | Email |Agartala, June 9, 2009 : Alleged misappropriation of money sanctioned for the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) at Dhanchandrapara Village Committee under Salema block in Dhalai district was raised by the Tripura Opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath on Tuesday.
Nath, who met Governor DN Sahaya, apprised the latter of the ’serious offence committed by elected village committee authorities’ by siphoning off a huge amount of the allocated fund for NREGA.
Addressing a press conference here, Nath said altogether 49 fake job cards were collected from the village alone.
According to him, around Rs 12.60 lakh meant for NREGA has been siphoned off last year by the chairman and his associates with the help of the Panchayat Secretary.
Nath urged the Governor to bring the matter to the notice of Centre to stop such misuse schemes meant for the poor.
He said around 50,000 fake job cards were issued by the BDOs in the State at the behest of the ruling party leaders. Nath also alleged that around Rs 40 crore was misappropriated during the last financial year (2008-09) by sanctioning jobs under the NREGA against fake names. It may be noted that the Centre had allocated Rs 514.27 crore last year to implement the NREGA.
